ABOUT THE MARKET:
The Winter Blues North Farmers Market occurs each year in conjunction with the WVU Extension’s annual Small Farm Conference in the Morgantown area. The market’s purpose is to not only show this can be done in the deepest of winter weather, but also to demonstrate to the statewide farmers participating best practices such as collecting gross sales information; accepting Electronic Benefits Transfers (EBT) and credit cards; and requiring local, producer-only ingredients. This well-shopped event is free and open to the public, the Morgantown community being wildly supportive of local foods. Types of food available at the market have been locally-raised meats, WV smoked trout, eggs, cider, nuts, maple syrup, honey, jams, houseplants, garlic, commercial-kitchen canned goods, winter-stored apples, potatoes and other root crops, hydroponic lettuces, cheese, breads and much more. Live music, delicious prepared foods, children’s activities, and tables for non-profits have been included in past years. The Winter Blues farmers Market has been held annually since 2009.
This year’s market will be held on Thursday, February 9th, 2017, 4:00-7:00 PM at the Ruby Community Center in Mylan Park.
The Winter Blues Farmers Market is hosted by the West Virginia Farmers Market Association and the WVU Small Farms Center. We are very grateful for the support of the WVU Human Nutrition and Foods Department, Change the Future WV, The WV Food and Farm Coalition, Natural Capital Investment Fund and Mountaineer Country Farmers Market which made this event possible.
